You Need Grip Training in Your Life

It feels a lot to me like grip training is the new strongman training. Strongman training used to be popular back in the early days before people really knew (or cared) about how they were supposed to lift to get big and strong. They just kinda lifted heavy shit all the time, and the rest took care of itself. Now it seems like everyone and their brother (including me) is incorporating strongman lifts into regular programming. It is no longer a sub-cult of the lifting community. Read More→

Tis the Season to be Anabolic

As your most favoritist and most respected health professional (RIGHT?!?!) I’m supposed to guilt you into not enjoying the holiday season. I’m supposed to tell you to not eat a bazilllion calories over the next month and a half. I can’t do that. It sounds too much like Catholicism. Not to mention, *I* will be eating a bazillion calories over the next month and a half, so why shouldn’t you?

KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid

I was just thinking last night how simple this is. Everyone likes to make it so much more complicated than it really is. “Eat this, not that”; “4 sets of 5 are ‘better’ than 3 sets of 10″; “Steady state cardio sucks, all you need is HIIT”; “Blondes are better than brunettes”.

That last one is ENTIRELY false. Well, in terms of attraction that is. Well, in terms of the wimenz that is.

100th Post: A Hodge Podge of Evryfing!

Ho-kay! Super duper, team! Way to go! Can you believe it’s been 100 posts already?! Actually, I’m sure the big time bloggers average close to 100 posts every 2 months. Me? Close to 2 years. Muahahahaha!

In true fashion of this website, I’m going to touch on something from each of the categories I post about. Let’s sit back, put your hand down your pants (if you’d like), and bask in my self-perceived gloriousness. Read More→

Advanced Functional Core Training

That title makes me giggle. I hate it when people describe a lift as being functional. What does that mean? Does that mean that a squat isn’t functional because they’re not called functional squats? What about functional strength? Does that mean powerlifters aren’t strong because they’re not “functional”? GAAAHHH!!!! Anyways, I used that wording to trick search engines. I really wanted to call it, “Stop doing crunches, you fools!!!1!11!!” Read More→

Training Update

Why, hello again! Long time no communication, eh? Sorry about it. Moving on….I’m pretty lazy (as has been noted several times), and this is me writing a cop-out post about my progress as of late…

The Importance of Setting Goals

Full disclosure: I’m all sorts of hopped up on caffeine right now. This may make less sense than the post I wrote while I was drunk.

The reason I’m all hopped up on caffeine is that my day between 8:30 am and 1:00 pm has been waaaaay to productive. When that happens, I tend to “reward” myself by being lazy the rest of the day. I didn’t want that to happen so instead, I decided to drink a pot of coffee. YIPPEE!!

The Barefoot Running Book

I know. I know what you all must be thinking: What the heck is an iron geek doing, writing about a barefoot running book???

Hellooo!!! McFly!!! Look at the blog title! “Athlete”-”Creator”. C’mon, I can’t be a one trick pony if I’m going to give myself that title, can I?

The Most Anabolic Things in Life

I woke up around 3am this morning, slipping in and out of sleep paralysis, and for some reason, I could NOT get this post out of my head. Not real sure what it was. At first I was just thinking about food and meal timing. Then it turned into lifts and exercises. Lastly, I started thinking about daily activities, like doing karate in your basement with a Samurai sword, that are also highly psychologically anabolic (read: make you feel badass).

So, without further ado, here’s my list…
