@Jessie

It's possible you're flexing your ankle too much, but I kinda hardly doubt it. Just use YouTube search terms like "barefoot running" or "Forefoot striking" etc. etc. If you still can't find anything, come back and see me, and I'll help you a little more. Deal?

Hey, I have a question. I've started practicing forefoot running because I'm doing cross country in college this year. I'm slow and not able to run a complete 5k. Forefoot striking is supposed to be efficient with no injuries sustained.

Unfortunately, I think I'm doing something wrong. My shins hurt! Is there a video on YouTube I can reference to make sure I'm doing it right?

i havent had a chance to read it yet...

but the frustrating thing about health, fitness etc...

is the fact that so many studies are done.. today says this, tomorrow its different...

one PHD physical therapist i know doesnt think barefoot running is a good idea at all... then iv read others say it is good because its harder to "'over work" yourself in bare feet, if you feel discomfort/pain you stop etc..

but it sometimes will come down to trial and error... i think for me... i must heel strike or turn my foot a little (verified by the PT on a treadmill.)

for example i can run sprints and not feel much out of my foot (the "injured" one) but if i jog a 5k i feel it for sure...

maybe its just my tendon cant "last" before getting inflamed.. beats me

but either way my foot/ankle is weak... so maybe some barefoot running would help strengthen it...

If anything it's discomfort, not pain. Only prevented exercise once or twice in the past 1.5 years. Happens during squats too.

Glad everybody got some use out of it. I guess it was about time I show I know about more things than just lifting weights. You should all really love/hate the next post I do about running. Bahahaha!!

@Michael

Does the clicking cause pain or alter your gait at all?
