Why do You Train?

Two things of note:

1) I wanted to type an email to all of my subscribers, but apparently that plug-in (don’t worry, that’s geek speak you need not concern yourself with) doesn’t support the iPhone. What a bitch.

2) If you’re a subscriber (or hurry up and subscribe now; the little boxes on the right of the page), you’ll learn why I’ve been so “lazy” lately.

3) In the spirit of said “laziness”, I will attempt to entice all you lovely people to interact with me.

So, why do you train? Here’s a couple reasons I do:

1) It’s a great stress reliever. Exercise releases feel-good endorphines into the body. The only thing that beats that is a playful romp with the sexual partner of your choice (don’t worry, I don’t judge). Or, if you’re like me, your right-hand man. Wait, I mean, just my right-hand. There’s no man in the equation except for me…and my right hand. Oh forget it. When have I cared what you think of me?

2) I get to lift heavy shit. Sure, when I talk to my powerlifter buddies, I’m pretty comparatively weak. However, when I talk to normal people, they are genuinely impressed. Call it, feeding my overinflated ego if you’d like.

3) I wanna look good naked. In the off chance I accidentally trick some unsuspecting female into taking my clothes off for me, I wanna make sure I look my best. With any luck, she’ll tell all of her friends who will in turn also want to see me naked. We can all dream, right? FML.

4) As I’ve said multiple times before, my playing career is 99% over. I’ll save that 1% just in case somebody that knows somebody needs an extra safety for a single Football game some summer. But anyways, I still want to know that I can perform. I like having a big vertical. I like being able to out sprint damn near anyone. I like knowing that if I have to escape some crazy stalker, I’ll be able to weave in and out of traffic and jump over fences.

So, there you have them. There’s probably more, and I probably didn’t give you the most serious answers, but those are mostly accurate. (Did I really just compound a compound sentence?)

Now, YOU tell ME why you train down in the comments. Peace out!

    1. Training is one of my FAVORITE things to do in life. I love the rush, the challenge… everything!

    2. I don’t want to be a weak girl.

    3. I like to compete with guys. I know I can’t lift as much as many, but in my gym, I least I lift better (better form, better routine). And I can lift more than some :-D

    4. Stay healthy & hopefully keep my bones strong and not get osteoporosis :-/

    5. Look good naked :)

  2. Scott says:

    1. I’m tired of working for other people and want to make a career switch. Only, no one will take advice from a fat trainer, so I train.

    2. I’ve overcome some of the most serious health issues any 30 year old has. I don’t want to do it again, so I train.

    3. I’m single and readily recognize that the women I’m attracted to are attracted to fit men. Especially when naked or near-naked. So I train.

    4. It’s a lot cheaper to go to the gym or workout at home than it is to go waste huge wads of cash at a bar or a club, only to feel like garbage the next day. So, instead, I train.

    5. I love the look on my friends’ faces when they pick up my 20kg, 24kg kettlebells, realize how heavy they are and then watch me effortlessly snatch it overhead. Me feel strong. So I train.

    Why do I train?

    1) To look good. Clothed, naked, doesn’t matter. The closer I reach my goals, the less clingy and insecure I get. I got realy cocky when I hit 165.

    2) Family history of heart problems, so.

    3) I’m turning 30 this year. I really need to ramp it up or else.

    4) Oh yeah, agreed that it’s a total stress reliever.

    5) Bragging rights.

    I train because losing is no longer an option.

  6. Pete Puma says:

    I train for the “holy shit” effect.

  7. Cara (FigurePrincess) says:

    I train to relieve stress and improve my phsyique.

    I train because it’s fun to show up to the gym looking girlie but lifting big.

    I train because I hate the words “I can’t”

    I train because what I learn about myself in the gym helps me in other areas of my life.

    I train to compete.

  8. Kean says:

    I train so I can crush a man’s skull with ease…

    but really, I do it for stress relief, out of habit and because it is about the only competative thing an athlete can do after he is washed up. Also, people don’t respect slobs.

    Keep it up Sandel…

    I train just to stay healthy, and get strong, but i was inspired by bruce lee and jackie chan movies idk how.. :)

  11. Mike says:

    I train so that I can perform better at the meaningless recreational sports that I find extremely motivational for me wanting to stay fit. If you don’t have a goal, what are you training for? You’ll get bored.

  12. Vinny V says:

    Verticle? Really, sir? My blog will be orthographically flawless.

    Also, buy Right Hand something, ‘it’ deserves it. May even let you throw Lefty in there for a threesome.

  13. Dave says:

    Alright, let’s get to some comments, eh?

    @Scott
    Love the outlook you have. Keep it up!

    @Jay
    Bragging rights are awesome. Unfortunately for me, I hang out with some pretty big dudes. I don’t really get to “brag”. And when I brag to my other friends, they really don’t give a shit. lol

    @Jimmy
    Nice. When’s your next fight, man?

    @Pete
    You should be getting pretty used to that by now, aren’t you?

    @Kean
    Can I do a feature on your dimples on here? Not to be all gay and shit, but if I posted your dimples, my traffic would increase by at leaset 62%.

    @Mike
    You defined “training”. People that train have a goal. People that walk around the gym mindless workout. Nice!

    @Vinny
    Damnit!! I saw that after I posted it and forgot to go back and correct it. I’ve been meaning to pick up a fleshlight. Where did you get yours?

  14. Devy says:

    Please don’t hate me,, I have to admit that I love cardio so much. Of course,, I still push my self to do weight training exercise because I know the benefit of it. I love the ‘high’ feeling when I do cardio. It’s better than sex,, IMO,, haha.. :D Nowadays,, I try my best to improve my run. I hate running at first. But now,, I training for 10K and hopefully half marathon soon. 10K is a small start,, I know. But it’s still a start. And,, well,, I have improve my speed to prepare my self for zombie invasion one day.. LOL.

    Last but not least,, I train to bring my self pain :)
